The Most Expensive Art work ‘Rabbit’ sculpture by living artist Jeff Koons’ sets Auction Record of $91.1 million.
Jeff Koons’ Rabbit, a 3 feet tall shiny stainless steel sculpture unveiled in 1986 at Ileana Sonnabend Gallery back, New York. It is one of the most famous Artworks in last 4 to 5 decades, and in fact, one of the most famous artworks of Mr.Jeff Koons’. It is often thought of as an icon of Contemporary Art. In this modern world, this statue shows the transformation power of the art object.

On 15th May 2019, this was offered to auction sale at British Auction House Christie’s in New York.
On this day, 11 iconic works were offered for auction from the collection of S.I. Newhouse, where Koons ‘Rabbit’ is estimated to sell up to $50 to $70 million with the thought of breaking the previous Koons record of $58.4 million auction sale for ‘Balloon Dog(orange)’ in November 2013.
All the 11 works combined were expected to sell at more than $130 million but where the ‘Rabbit’ sculpture itself sold at a value of $91.1 million breaking Koons record and also surpassed the highest auction sale record of David Hockney’s painting 1972, “Portrait of an Artist (Pool With Two Figures)” of value $90.2 million in November 2018.
The selling price was only $80 million but including the commissions and fees, the total price rose to $91.1 million.
The six Contemporary Artworks were raised $115 million on 15th May, 2019 and five other Impressive and Modern works raised $101 million on 13th May, 2019.
